Samsung Galaxy S5 release date may be on Feb. 23 and will be introduced alongside other Samsung devices, including smartphones, tablets and TV.

According to IT News, Tizen backers sent out invitation to a press conference to be held on Feb. 23, 2014, a day before the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona. The report said the attendees will have "an exclusive sneak preview of the newest Tizen devices and an opportunity to learn about the major milestones that the Tizen project has hit since last year's event."

Other reports claimed the Samsung Galaxy S5 will pack a combination of Tizen OS and Firefox OS ditching Android 4.4 KitKat OS, which may disappoint some waiting fans.

Samsung's Chief Secretary Wonsuk Lee said Samsung is working on its relationship with the aforementioned companies. This could be a sign that Samsung is breaking up with Google's Android.

According to Lee, since both Tizen and Firefox OS are HTML5-based, apps written for one platform can work on the other. The Firefox OS is expected to be used on entry-levels smartphones and the Tizen OS will be able to work on both low and high-end models.

Lee also confirmed that smartphones packed with Tizen OS will be release on the first half of 2014. There may be a little problem with Mozilla's mobile software as Mozilla wants to keep the name of its mobile software Boot2Gecko OS being used on handsets created for OEMs.

Samsung already announced some devices with Tizen OS, a tablet aimed at developers and a camera. Both devices are available in South Korea.

Samsung said more than once that it intends to introduce Smart TVs, netbooks and in-vehicle infotainment systems based on Tizen, so we might also see some of these on Feb. 23.

Samsung's first Tizen smartphone was supposed to be launched this year. However, the company probably decided that the OS was still not mature enough for a commercial handset.

It is still unconfirmed what type of devices will pack the new operating system and which type of consumers will be the target of the new OS.

IT News said that some devices will run with a Lite version of Tizen, should be aimed at the same category of users who would buy Firefox OS phones or cheap Android and Windows Phone handsets.
