Latest information about the Samsung Galaxy S5 points to February 23 as the official announcement date of the flagship phone. Despite reports saying Samsung will be announcing some of its products during the Mobile World Congress, it seems the Korean tech giant will not be slowing down. According to recent reports, it plans on conducting separate events for the announcement of its devices including the release of the Samsung Galaxy S5.

According to Eldar Murtazin of Mobile Review, the South Korean tech giant will be launching the Samsung Galaxy S5 on February 23 in Barcelona. This is ahead of the Mobile World Congress 2014. Murtazin says that the much-awaited flagship phone will hit stores officially around the end of April. The Samsung Galaxy S5 will feature a new UI. As Murtazin tweeted:

"Samsung Galaxy S5 launch - 18.00. Barcelona. 23 February. Price the same. Launch - end of April. Specs - u know them :) new touchwiz ;)."

The tweet does not offer more details regarding the specs of the Samsung Galaxy S5. However, it did suggest that some specs were already known. This meant that reports and leaks previously about the Galaxy S5 features may have hit the spot.

Despite the tweet and supporting reports, there are also sources saying that a Samsung executive discussed already the release of the S5 similar to the S4. If the release of the S5 will follow a similar timeline to the S4 then the product could make an appearance around March. The executive also discussed that the company will have a New York event by March.

Reported features of the flagship phone include 2K display, 1440x2560 pixels (QHD), eye scanning sensor and 2900mAh battery. There have been reports indicating a sighting of a device labeled Samsung SM-G900S. The device was spotted last December with 2K display offering 1440x2560 pixels for screen resolution. Many sources believe this is the Samsung Galaxy S5. The screen is around 5 to 5.2 inches. Considering the screen, the device will have around 560ppi for pixel density.

Sammy Today also reported that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) approved a new Samsung design patent. According to the report, the design patent features a Samsung smartphone without any front panel buttons. This should be an interesting bit for people wondering what the next Samsung smatphone will look like.
