Samsung Galaxy S5, S5 Prime and Multiple Variants Release Guide: When Will They Hit Your Region?
Samsung unveiled its newest flagship phone, the Samsung Galaxy S5, during the Mobile World Congress 2014 last February. Following the official announcement, the Korean tech giant promised that the device will soon hit stores on April 11. As the official release date nears, several variants of the Samsung Galaxy S5 have popped up. What can people expect? When will the flagship and its variants hit other regions?
According to a report by Times of India, Samsung will be releasing the Galaxy S5 on April 11 but it appears the company has been gearing up for another announcement. Polish web site Galaktyczny.pl also revealed that the South Korean tech giant has been working on a Samsung Galaxy S5 model focusing on camera optics.
In the previous year, Samsung released the Galaxy S4 zoom. It is a tone-down version of the original Samsung Glaaxy S4 focusing on better camera features but with a bulkier body. Aside from the S5 version with more camera optics features, BGR also reported another variant similar to the S4 Active.
A Samsung Galaxy S5 Active will reportedly launch in the United States specifically under Sprint and AT&T. This is backed up by a lead from notorious tipster @evleaks. According to the tipster's tweet, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active goes by the model name SM-G870x.
Nonetheless, the reported leaks do not offer more details about the features and exact plans of Samsung. There are also no leads yet on how much these variants will cost. Analysts note that looking Samsung's track record, people will see these variants in stores in no time. The release dates could be a few weeks after April 11.
The SM-G870 previously surfaced on Indian import size Zauba. After spotting the model early in March there are also previous reports that Samsung secured an IP67 certification. This means one its models feature water and dust resistance features. These features are similar on the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active.
Other features that people may find on the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active and S5 Zoom include: 4.8-inch screen with 720 display, quad-core 1.6GHz processor plus 2GB RAM. It may also run with Android 4.4 KitKat plus Samsung's trademark TouchWiz.
