Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Release Update: Devices Will Feature an Impressive 4 GB RAM
Samsung's upcoming line-up of flagships may features a 4 GB RAM. The company just announced its first 8-Gb low-power DDR4 mobile DRAM memory chip. This should give users more freedom on their devices including faster and better performance. Can Samsung deliver?
For those who thought Samsung Galaxy Note 3's 3 GB RAM was great already, Samsung has more up its sleeves. The Korean tech giant will be offering more RAM space in its upcoming line of flagships. Since no other phone manufacturer announced a similar venture, this will make Samsung the first company to include an impressive 4 GB RAM on its mobile devices.
Specifically, the new 8Gb LPDDR4 memory chip under Samsung will provide a 4 GB RAM mobile-sized, multi-layered treat. Additionally, analysts also predict users can expect 50 per cent speed improvement from the higher bandwidth from 3.1 Gbps DDR standard. This will trump the current offering of DDR3-based chips. Putting cherry on top, Samsung also claimed that the upcoming chipset will consume 40 per cent less power compared to previous models.
"This next-generation LPDDR4 DRAM will contribute significantly to faster growth of the global mobile DRAM market, which will soon comprise the largest share of the entire DRAM market," Young-Hyun Jun, EVP of mobile sales & marketing at Samsung Electronics, said on a press release published Dec 30.
"We will continue introducing the most advanced mobile DRAM one step ahead of the rest of the industry so that global OEMs can launch innovative mobile devices with exceptional user convenience in the timeliest manner," the EVP added.
Samsung announced that the mass production of its upcoming memory chip will begin this 2014. The new chipset will be included in its line of tablets with Ultra HD (UHD) displays and smartphones. The chipset will cater to devices that need additional memory to support high resolution.
"With the new chip, Samsung will focus on the premium mobile market including large screen UHD smartphones, tablets, and ultra-slim notebooks that offer four times the resolution of full-HD imaging, and also on high-performance network systems," the press release said.
The upcoming memory chip will feature the highest level of density. This will ensure impressive performance while keeping devices energy efficient. It should be a win-win deal for users.
