Samsunsg has released its flagship device for the year, the Samsung Galaxy S5. Since its release, the handset has been up against competitors like the iPhone 5s and the HTC One M8. Whereas there are consumers not as impressed with Samsung's large plastic handset, it does offer a range of features that can compete against the HTC One and the iPhone 5s. A rundown of the specs should give consumers an idea of what the S5 can offer.

Design and Functionality

The iPhone 5s, Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 offer varied types of design. Samsung's handset comes off as a bulky plastic handset with dotted pattern. Apple's iPhone 5s sports a compact aluminum body whereas the HTC delivers an excellent job with beveled edges, solid construction, curved back including an appealing finish and fit. The iPhone 5s and HTC One offers a premium feel compared to the Samsung Galaxy S5.

According to a report by Laptop Mag, the iPhone 5s keyboard offers people to type fast and accurately on it. However, the Samsung Galaxy S5 offers more options. The layout of the S5's keyboard offers a dedicated number. The layout and haptic feedback saves people time. Other features include swipe typing and next-word prediction.

Samsung's Galaxy S5's large keys and screen allow people to target the buttons easier. They keyboard also picks up what users type in different apps like Twitter and Facebook. HTC One boasts of the Sense 6 UI. The BlinkFeed allows users to customize the interface even more. Laptop Mag's review indicated that Apple should work on innovating its keyboard and UI. It may also do the company well if they will allow third-party keyboards.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy S5 offers 16MP camera plus some great features. The iPhone 5s comes with an 8MP camera. Samsung comes with real-time HDR that allows users to check results before they take the shot. HDR on Apple's iPhone 5s lets users capture two shots and combine the images for the best photo.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 allows people to focus on the background or foreground of the photo following the shot. Likewise, the latest Shot & More mode gives users the chance to capture a photo series and apply additional modes and a range of effects like Best Face or Eraser.

HTC One's camera software comes with highlight videos. The software provides excellent ways to share video clips and photos. According to ZDNET, HTC One offers a great range of editing tools and effects. Samsung ships with an advanced color saturation offering 158.4% color gamut than the 98.4% in the iPhone 5s.

The right smartphone still depends on what type of functionality a user needs but some of these rundowns should help consumers decide.
