Samsung and LG have both been competitive in the smartphone arena. The two companies have been releasing handsets for quite some time each earning their marks on the market. Samsung has been best known for its Galaxy line whereas LG has maintained a good position for its Nexus partnership with Google. With the release of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and LG G3, how do these two handsets compare or perform against one another?

Processors

Samsung's Galaxy S5 LTE variant and LG's G3 both run on Qualcomm's quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz. According to the reported spec sheet of the G3, the device may also run on Snapdragon 805 processor. However, despite announcements from Qualcomm that it may soon be ready for the 805 processor, LG may stick to the 801 similar to other competitors.

Screen/Display

Previously, Samsung was supposed to go for a higher resolution similar to the Retina technology of Apple. However, the Korean tech giant decided to go for 1920 by 1080 pixel resolution for a 5.1-inch display. LG, on other hand, want to push things further. The company decided to for 5.5-inch screen offering up to 2560 by 1440 pixel resolution. The screen also comes with quad HD technology.

Size and weight

The Samsung Galaxy S5 weighs lighter compared to the G3. The S5 is around 145 grams whereas the G3i is around 149grams. Overall, the S5 is also comparatively smaller. The device measures 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 millimeters while the G3 measures G3's 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.4 millimeters.

Storage and RAM

The Samsung Galaxy S5 and the LG G3 both offers memory options between 16GB to 32GB. They also come with microSD cards for expandable memory. The LG G3 offers between 2GB to 3GB Ram whereas the S5 has 2GB.

It may take some time before users can decide which of the two are better but they cater to varying types of needs. It is best for people to assess what type of handset they require.
