Samsung Galaxy S5 is several months away from release and the company begins readying the upcoming 2014 flagship smartphone. Reports indicate that Galaxy S5 may have both Android and Tizen variant, optical image stabilisation camera and exterior made out of aluminium and magnesium.

Operating System

Samsung isn't ready yet to let go of Android OS even with the development of Tizen OS under their wings. Tizen OS may be designed to run Samsung devices which are classified as mid-range or low-level. The South Korean tech giant delayed the Tizen flagship smartphone this year which was announced to be released after Galaxy S4.

According to the co-CEO of Samsung, Boo-Keun Yoon, the company plans to use Tizen on connecting all of their devices which includes mobile phones and tablets as well. The closest possibility that Samsung could do for the Galaxy S5 in terms of OS is to create two variants - an Android and a Tizen.

Google already revealed Android 4.4 KitKat and remains an open-source operating system. Android 4.4 KitKat is expected to be launched in October 2013 which will eventually reach all flagship phones by early 2014 after the Nexus line receives their push update. Samsung Galaxy S4 is going to use Android 4.4 KitKat that will carry the major changes in the Android ecosystem.

Optical Image Stabilisation Camera

Another possible upgrade on the Galaxy S5 is the installation of an optical image stabilisation camera which shoots well than digital ones. OIS camera technology is currently featured on several phones such as Nokia's with PureView and the HTC's "ultrapixel" technology.

Optical image stabilisation includes the following improvements:

- Reduced blurring when capturing in motion

- Compensates panning and tilting the camera

- Stabilises the recorded image by varying the optical path to the sensor

- It is compatible with Digital Image Stabilisation

- Zooming out to its maximum magnification will make the camera extremely sensitive to motion

No More Plastic Body

The use of polycarbonate material on the Samsung Galaxy line became a concern among figures inside the walls of Samsung. Reports claim that the company sent engineers to Vietnam to investigate the possibility of using aluminium and magnesium components for creating new casing on future Galaxy smartphones. Samsung has always been criticised for the lack of innovation on upgrading the physical components used on the body which commonly viewed as cheap and weak compared to premium devices such as HTC One and Sony Xperia Z.

Samsung hasn't announce any release date yet but the company may launch the Galaxy S5 in March 2015. The company is expected to make sure to complete its research and development before features and specifications are announced to the public.
