Samsung Galaxy S5 Will Upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop Starting December: What to Expect
Samsung will play Santa and deliver the sweet Lollipop or Android 5.0 to Galaxy S5 owners worldwide hopefully in time for Christmas 2014, a new report said.
December rollout
SamMobile is claiming that from KitKat 4.4.4, the GS5 will begin chewing down the newest Android build anytime in December, which could prove as the fastest jump so far by any Samsung flagship to Google's re-engineered mobile operating system.
Yet like in the previous new Android rollout, GS5 users will not get a taste of Lollipop at the same time. The upgrade while relatively swift this time will remain gradual - meaning some will get it first while others will have to wait a bit.
In the scheme of things called the fragmented Android upgrade procedure, the unlocked or international versions almost always get the privilege of having the latest mobile OS first then units from specific telcos or network service providers are next in line.
So the likelihood is, GS5 users who bought their units SIM-free are in luck as they'll be the first to unwrap Santa's Lollipop glorious sweetness.
Expectations
Also, SamMobile duly stressed on its report that the information from its unnamed source mentioned no specific schedule for the Lollipop Galaxy S5 rollout. With that, it should be safe to assume the following:
- That the GS5 transformation from KitKat to Lollipop will only commence beginning in December and many users will be rewarded for their wait well into the early days of January 2015. At least, that would be faster compared HTC's target of deploying Android 5.0, for instance to the HTC One M8, in the next 90 days.
- That the Galaxy S5 is likely the first Samsung flagship to get Lollipop, which could convince smartphone shoppers this holiday season to pick the GS5 over the Galaxy Note 4. All because they care about the exciting things that Android 5.0 will bring to the S5. To date, it remains unconfirmed when the Note 4 is getting a full lick of Lollipop.
Key 5.0 enhancements in the GS5
Lollipop is expected to pump up the Galaxy S5 with power and speed as the handset's mighty high-end components will be complemented by the software's full support for 64-bit compatible applications.
Performance of the GS5 will also be boosted by the new ART runtime while battery juice will be extended by 5.0's recoded handling of background running applications, SamMobile said.
Lastly, Sammy users in the Galaxy S5 should have a taste of the much-celebrated Material Design, which emphasises a flatter device interface that also highlights engaging functions and features such as the actionable lockscreen notifications.
