A new report claims that Samsung Galaxy S5 won't feature an Optical Image Stabilisation camera module once released. According to the source, Samsung is unable to get all the necessary hardware components in time to add OIS technology on the 2014 flagship smartphone.

Optical Image Stabilisation Won't Be Included

Korean Web site ETNews picked up rumours that said Samsung's upcoming 2014 flagship smartphone Galaxy S5 won't feature an Optical Image Stabilisation camera upon release next year. The report stated that Samsung was unable to get all the necessary hardware components in time to complete the OIS feature that was planned.

Optical Image Stabilisation feature missing on Galaxy S5 may appear on other high-end devices at the second half of 2014 which could mean Galaxy Note 4 and the rumoured Galaxy F may have it.

Why OIS Should Be Included?

Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 lack Optical Image Stabilisation camera technology which is seen to appear on Galaxy S5 in 2014. OIS technology is a growing trend among smartphones today which will become a normal feature on high-end devices starting next year.

The main reason why Samsung needs to add OIS on high-end devices is for stronger selling point especially against competitors capable of adding the same feature. Sony's upcoming rumoured smartphone Xperia Z2 or 'Avatar' is speculated to boast a powerful camera plus hardware resistance against water and dust which will compete directly to other flagship smartphone next year.

ISOCELL Camera

Early rumours indicated that Galaxy S5 will feature an ISOCELL camera which also take advantage of OIS technology even it wasn't mentioned. However, due to the lack of possible OIS technology, an ISOCELL is highly unlikely to be featured by the next-generation Galaxy S flagship smartphone.
