Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge getting 6.0.1 Marshmallow beta
Samsung released a beta version of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge. Unlike minor Android version updates, it brings in a handful of upgrades.
According to SamMobile, the update has an unexpectedly large changelog. It incorporates an additional Quick Settings toggles for Private Mode in the status bar, an improved visibility of notification panel icons and a new emoji, to name a few.
The update will also change the way how vibrations work when the device is locked. Users will only get vibrations when their fingerprint is not recognised by the device. With the Android v6.0.1, the phone will now get a new interface for the Edge screen settings including an “Edge Panels” option.
With the new “Install Overnight” option, users will be able to install major updates at night between 2 am and 5 am. The update will also introduce a customisable Edge panel and a new Tasks Edge panel to set shortcuts for apps, reports Tech Times. Now the device will automatically change the profile settings based on the location of the user.
The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update for Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge is now live. Participants of the beta program can check for the update by following these steps: Go to Settings > About device > Software update menu.
Samsung’s 2015 flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6, received the beta of Android v6.0 Marshmallow in early January. In the meantime, T-Mobile has come up with a list of devices eligible for getting the Marshmallow update. The list includes Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy Note edge, Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Tab S2.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Note 4 on Verizon has received its much-awaited Android 5.1.1 Lollipop updates. The over-the-air update will bring in latest security patches, resolve prevalent stability issues and optimise device performance.
