Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 Review: Good Enough for Casual Users, Kids [See Leaked Galaxy Tab 3 Photos]
Galaxy Tab 2 reviews typically compare the cheap tablet to iPad 2. It is an entry-level tablet fit for kids and light to moderate tablet users. It will not compete against newer branded tablets, but it is not a waste of money.
It must be noted that many of those who bought the iPad 2 some years back are still happy with their device. They don't think they need the latest gadget refresh. They certainly don't feel the need to join the scoop on iPad 5 release date or the next Nexus device.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is a good alternative to expensive Apple and Google tablets. It is Android-powered, so the environment is not restrictive. It is good enough for casual and light users, as well as kids. The apps selection is not as extensive as in the Apple App store, but if you're a light user or a kid who plays simple games, there is no real problem here.
The Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) 16GB WiFi sports a decent screen resolution: 1280 x 800 pixels. It is powered by a dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A9, TI OMAP 4430 with 1GB RAM, using Li-Po 7000 mAh battery. Its storage is expandable up to 32GB.
The Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) 8GB WiFi may not be for gadget enthusiasts. Kids would have no problem with it, if they can get the games they want. It also has a dual core processor, 1GB of RAM and expandable storage, but the screen display is down to 1024 x 600 pixels only. It is not really bad (especially if you don't really care).
The upcoming Galaxy Tab 3, however, seems promising. The tabs will now be 3G-enabled, with better camera and newer Android OS environment. One of the main concerns of those buying the Tab 2 now is losing the chance at trying out the Android 5 Key Lime Pie. The new Android OS will only run on the latest devices, including only a few older Android tab models.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 variants are available at Australia's online shop, MobiCity. The tablets' price tags are currently set at $479.95 for the 10.1-inch 16GB Wi-Fi only unit, and $249.95 for the 7-inch 8GB Wi-Fi only variant.
