Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 could be the Korean tech giant's gadget candy for the tablet skeptics. Considering its specs, the latest tablet entry has nothing to compete with the Galaxy Note 8. But the Tab 3 has sufficient details to convince a reluctant tablet buyer to go shopping now. Samsung probably wants to offer a "cheap tablet" for those who wouldn't trust other brands.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is now available for pre-orders via the Australian online store MobiCity for $549. There has been no Galaxy Tab 3 price tag announcement yet, but it is safe to assume it would (again) be able to compete with the US$199 Google Nexus 7 - which is also a 7-inch albeit more robust tablet. The Tab 2, for your shopping reference is $229 on MobiCity.

The Tab 3 sports a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 px. Such limited pixels will certainly disappoint the Retina display or AMOLED-accustomed users. Then again, the overall design of this new Samsung tablet seems to have been deliberately played down.

Inside the Note 8 is a Quad-core 1.6GHz processor, Cortex-A9, Exynos 4412, with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage expandable to up to 64GB. The device runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Its TFT display features no AMOLED technology, but good enough at 1280 x 800 px. It also comes with a 5MP rear camera.

The Tab 3 is ultralight at only 302 grams. So much sacrifice has been made to achieve the weight, but eBook readers would probably want to check it out. In contrast, the 7.9-inch no-Retina iPad mini (WiFi only) weighs 308 g. The small Apple tablet sports a screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768 px. It costs $389.

In comparison to the 7-inch tablet Google Nexus 7, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 wins out in weight factor. The Nexus 7 sports a 1280 x 800 pixels screen and weighs 340 g.

The Galaxy Tab 3 is not meant for tablet users seeking the most brilliant display and the fastest processor in the market. But it is good for tablet starters, especially those whose tablet is mostly for frequent web browsing only. Film buffs should also know that the Tab 3 is equipped for Full HD video playback. Once the Tab 3 price is out, it will be easier for the tect analysts to cast their verdict on this new device.
