Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5-Inch Model vs. iPad Air: Price and Specs Face-Off in Australia
South Korean conglomerate Samsung recently unwrapped Samsung Galaxy Tab S during the "Tab Into Color Galaxy Premiere." The 10.5-inch model aims to compete with Apple iPad Air. So how Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.5-inch model fare with Apple iPad Air when it will arrive in Australia?
Price
According to CNET, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.5-inch model costs $530 in Australia. This price is $68 cheaper than Apple iPad Air which costs $598 at the Apple Australia Web site.
Physical Appearance
According to Samsung Web site, the Galaxy Tab S is available in Titanium Bronze and Dazzling White colors. It weighs 465 grams and measures 247.3 mm in height, 177.3 mm in width, and 6.6 mm in thickness.
On the other hand, Apple Web site mentions that iPad Air is available in two colors - space gray and silver. It weighs 469 grams and measures 240-mm in height, 169.5 mm in width, and 7.5 mm in thickness.
Camera
Speaking of camera, Samsung Galaxy Tab S has better specs than Apple iPad Air. Samsung Galaxy Tab S has 8-megapixel back facing camera and 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera.
Meanwhile, Apple iPad Air has 5-megapixel back facing camera and 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera. The specs are compensated with additional camera features such as autofocus, face detection, backside illumination, five-element lens, hybrid IR filter, tap to focus video or images, tap to control exposure, photo and video geotagging, and HDR focus.
Display
In terms of display, Samsung Galaxy Tab S is a lot better than Apple iPad Mini. It has 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 2560 x1600 pixels.
Meanwhile, Apple stated that iPad Air has 9.7-inch LED-backlit multi-touch display with IPS technology. It has a screen resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels.
Operating Systems
Samsung Galaxy Tab S runs on Android 4.4 Kitkat while Apple iPad Air runs on iOS7.
Processors
For the processors, Samsung Galaxy Tab S has 1.3 GHz and 1.9 GHz Exynos Octa-core processors. On the other hand, Apple iPad Air has dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A9 processors and A7 chip with motion co-processor.
Memory
According to Samsung, the Galaxy Tab S has 16 BG built-in memory and 3 GB of RAM. It also has a microSD slot for additional memory of up to 128 GB. Meanwhile, Apple mentioned that iPad Air has only 16 BG built-in memory and 512 MB of RAM with no room for memory expansion.
