Samsung Gear S To Be Available Through AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint This Fall
On Tuesday, Samsung revealed that the Gear S smartwatch would be available through all the leading carriers of the US. The South Korean tech giant had unveiled the Gear S alongside the Gear VR headset, the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge during the Unpacked 2014 Episode 2 event that was held on Sept 9.
According to Mashable, Samsung has only revealed that the Gear S will come soon to AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint. Apart from this, no other information has been revealed.
One of the most unique features that sets the Samsung Gear S apart from other smartwatches like the Moto 360, LG G Watch R and Apple Watch is it supports 3G and cellular connectivity. By inserting a SIM card inside the Gear S, you will be able to make calls through the smartwatch.
The 3G-enabled Gear S can be used to send and receive text messages and to access the Web as well. According to PC World, customers who are interested in checking out the Gear S smartwatch can visit any of the AT&T stores on Friday for a preview. As of now, none of the four carriers have revealed the Samsung Gear S' release date.
According to an AT&T press release, in order to show the alerts (new text messages and emails) from an AT&T smartphone on Gear S smartwatch via Bluetooth, a compatible Samsung smartphone must be connected to an AT&T data network.
The Gear S smartwatch comes with a 2-inch Super AMOLED display screen. It features a display resolution of 360 x 480 pixels. It also comes with 512 MB RAM and an internal storage of 4 GB. The smartwatch is powered by a dual-core processor that works at a speed of 1.2 GHz.
The Samsung Gear S smartwatch is running on Tizen OS whereas competitor smartwatches like the Moto 360, LG G Watch R and Asus ZenWatch all feature the Android Wear OS. As far as connectivity is concerned, the Gear S offers options like 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth v4.1.
