South Korean tech giant Samsung is joining the gold rush started by rival Apple by coming out with its own version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 gold series. In fact, Samsung is doubling the competition by making two models - the gold brown and gold pink S4.

On Sept 10, Apple unveiled the iPhone 5C and 5S. The 5S had a gold edition that sold beyond the expectation of the Cupertino-based tech giant when the new phones became available in stores over the weekend.

However, based on the timeline, Samsung had planned its gold edition S4 earlier than the release of the iPhone 5S gold, said TechCrunch, although the Web site believes that "Samsung likely follows the Apple rumor mill even more closely than the fanboys and likely knew with a high degree of certainty that a gold iPhone was in the pipeline.

But the gold S4 would only be initially sold in the United Arab Emirates where residents are flowing with petro dollars and could afford more expensive units from Samsung.

The Techcrunch article triggered again the usual Apple vs Samsung war among techies in its Comment section, but one commenter, rodjoh, wisely pointed out that "Apple or Samsung, it's just fool's gold."
