Samsung reveals plans on releasing two new ultrabooks - and they have crazy resolution. The ATIV Book 9 Plus and the ATIV Lite series will offer screen resolution of 3200 x 1800. Will this be the best ultrabook yet?

Samsung has dominated the smartphones category impressively beating Apple sales. However, it was only recently that the company decided to try their hands on the ultrabook convertible market through the ATIV Q. This time, Samsung is pushing for their ATIV Book 9 Plus and Lite editions.

The Book 9 Plus refers to an updated version of the 13-inch Full HD Series 9 Ultrabook. The model can be considered as an update of the 2012 model. One of the big differences is the 1080p screen. The Book 9, on other hand, refers to an all-new model using similar design language to the Book 9. The good thing about the Book 9 is its price. It is comparatively cheaper to other ultrabooks though people should expect a plastic construction and lower-end specs. For beginners and people who want to test out this gadget category, the Book 9 should be a good choice.

ATIV Book 9 Plus

The device's form factor mimics the 'New' Series 9 Ultrabooks from 2012. In this way, it is easy to spot how Samsung learned the ways of Apple's MacBook Air playbook. The Air is considered one of the most successful playbooks around but Samsung did not want to get in the way of that. Instead, the Korean tech giant offers a similar thin and light device measuring 13.6mm and weighing only 1.39kg. The chassis is made from 'Mineral Ash Black.' Connectivity options remain the same as predecessors although there are the upgraded dual USB 3.0 ports in place of one.

The most notable feature of the Book 9 Plus is the ultra-high resolution QHD+ 13.3" 3200 x 1800 multi-touch screen. Users can find this in the ATIV Q convertible. It has an incredible and crisp resolution at 275ppi. This trumps the retina display featured in the 13" MacBook Pro. The device includes a PLS panel, which is Samsung's version of IPS. This offers excellent viewing angles. However, the high-resolution can be a problem since Windows 8 is not built for such high DPI.

ATIV Book 9 Lite

Initially, it is easy to confuse the Book 9 Lite with the Book 9 Plus. Nonetheless, it has a thicker built at 16.9 mm. The Plus only has 13.6mm. Contrary to its name, the Lite weighs heavier at 1.44kg. This is something unexpected from a device made from plastic construction. As for the screen, it uses a 1366 x 768 LED backlit TN touch-screen panel. This is a more affordable option for users.

With more and more companies releasing ultrabooks and the market anticipating the release of the Apple's MacBook Air, it can be a stiff battle soon.
