Samsung To Pull The Plug Off Galaxy Alpha As Galaxy A5, A3 And A7 Get Ready For Release
According to reports from South Korean media, Samsung is reportedly planning to discontinue the Galaxy Alpha smartphone. And this strategic move will take effect sometime in February 2015.
Based on the information from ETNews, the South Korean conglomerate will cease to make the Apple iPhone 6 competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha, as soon as the current inventory of materials gets utilised. This move will lead way to the Samsung Galaxy A series of smartphones, which also boast the premiuim design seen in the Galaxy Alpha, says Phone Arena. However the difference comes in the form of specifications and features.
Apparently, the Galaxy A series of devices will be specced according to the growingly price-aggressive device market. In general, the Galaxy A handsets are very good-looking and they are paired with mid-range specifications. Plus, the under the hood performance will reportedly be reasonable and the price of the device will fall under the mid-range category, says the same site.
In 2014, Samsung has not been very successful in nailing the non-flagship offerings. Cheaper phones with low- to high-end specifications from Xiaomi, OnePlus and Meizu have been quite successful and they turned out to be tough competitors for Samsung. It is worth noting that the first Galaxy A handset to hit the South Korean market will be the Samsung Galaxy A5. According to an unnamed inside source, the A5's design is expected to be better than the Alpha and the price point is based on the housed specifications.
Apparently, the Galaxy A5 is priced at KRW 400,000, which roughly translates to $361. Plus, this handset will be marketed as "a premium model in the mid to low-priced product line." As far as the key specifications go, the Samsung Galaxy A5 will reportedly feature a metal unibody design, 5.0-inch display, 720p resolution, quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor and 2 GB of RAM. In addition, there will be a 13 MP rear-facing camera, a 5 MP front-facing snapper and a 2,300 mAh battery unit.
On the other hand, the entry-level Samsung Galaxy A3 will feature the same metallic styling but then the specifications and features will be lowered according to the low-price range. Meanwhile, the information pertaining to the Samsung Galaxy A7, touted as the crème de la crème device out of the Galaxy A series of smartphones, has not been revealed yet.
