Samsung says it is a tough battle against Apple: Company counters with new Galaxy phone and leasing program
Samsung admits that it is having trouble working against Apple. The Korean tech giant has been suffering from a sales slump and now new emerging competitors -- not to mention Apple's continued success with its smartphones. Nonetheless, this is not stopping the company from releasing a completely new smartphone at the CES including a new leasing program that will compete with Apple's Update Program. Can Samsung pull it off?
Samsung remains optimistic about its market performance as it emphasises it is not just about the sales volume but also about the type of user who patronises the smartphones. Furthermore, the company claims it is about understanding what customers want.
“For Samsung to bring in the S6 and the innovation behind it – the best display and the curved display – and you can see what we’re doing on TVs it’s phenomenal. I’m really confident and proud of what we’ve delivered in the UK. Of course it’s a tough battle – and we know it’s a big battle, but I enjoy that." Samsung’s Conor Pierce – VP of mobile in UK and Ireland, told Forbes in an interview.
This does not mean the company is planning on similar approaches as with its biggest rival, Apple. According to another report from Forbes, Samsung will be offering a leasing program similar to Apple's Update Program. The program will be available in the United States soon for the company's Galaxy phones. “It’s a no brainer why they wouldn’t do this,” Forbes quoted a source familiar to the matter. Samsung has not yet provided the exact details of the program.
Both the companies' moves are in light of several carriers' decision to offer their handsets instead to customers thus threatening sales of high-end phones from the tech giants. Analysts responded well to Apple's plans saying it may do the company well in the future. Samsung has yet to detail its scheme.
