Students walk out of Samsung Electronics' headquarters in Seoul July 7, 2014. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd on Tuesday said operating profit likely fell 24.5 percent in April-June, its lowest in two years due to slowing growth in the company's cash cow smartphone business and the strength of the South Korean won. The upcoming Samsung SM-A500 has cleared TENAA certification, thereby providing good glimpse of the handset's images and features. For those unfamiliar, TENAA is the Chinese equivalent of American Federal Communications Commission or FCC

Apparently, Samsung SM-A500 is the budget-friendly/mid-range version of the Galaxy Alpha. Much like Alpha, the handset guarantees a premium look. Also, the smartphone will feature a 5-inch Super AMOLED display complemented by 720 x 1,280 pixel HD screen resolution, according to GSM Arena.

Going by the report listed in TENAA, the Samsung SM-A500 will be powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400) processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. The phone will reportedly be backed by a good 2 GB of RAM, and it will run on Android v4.4.4 KitKat OS with Samsung's latest TouchWiz UI. When it comes to memory, the device will come with 16 GB of internal storage capacity and microSD card support for expansion up to 128 GB.

Furthermore, the Samsung SM-A500 smartphone will sport a solid 13 MP rear-facing camera unit with the ability to record 1,080p videos. In addition, there is a surprisingly good 5 MP front-facing snapper for selfies. Apart from the standard connectivity options, the Samsung device will support 2G, 3G and China-exclusive LTE (at this point). Speaking of size, the smartphone is 6.7 mm thick and weighs 126 g. This means, SM-A500 will have a thinner profile similar to the Galaxy Alpha. On the other hand, the metal-clad Galaxy Alpha comes with a thickness and weight of 6.7 mm and 115 g, respectively. According to reports, there will be black and white versions of the SM-A500 handset. However, other hues might pop out when the handset gets unveiled, says GSM Arena.

Earlier reports from SamMobile pointed out that Samsung Galaxy Alpha is one of the A Series of devices the company is planning to release in 2014. Readers can expect two more variants with model numbers SM-A300 and SM-A700, along with the smartphone in focus, SM-A500, in the near future. If reports are true, apart from the aforementioned specifications, the SM-A500 will come equipped with a good 2,330 mAh battery unit. Moreover, the upcoming handset will reportedly feature a hybrid card slot. This unique slot can house both microSD and nano-SIM cards, reports NDTV.
