Samsung's first Windows 10 tablet gets WiFi certification

Prevailing rumours suggest that Samsung is working on a 12-inch tablet powered by Windows 10. The tablet will reportedly be powered by an Intel Core M processor with 4 GB of RAM.

Documents issued by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) and the Wi-Fi Alliance reveal that a Samsung device with the model number SM-W700 has been certified by both organisations.

The specifications mentioned in the Wi-Fi Alliance certificate indicates that the device will be run on Windows 10 OS. This means that the new tablet will support Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac and will be compatible with Bluetooth 4.1 standards, reports Tech Labor.

The device is speculated to feature a 12-inch display with a resolution of 2,560 X 1,440 or 3,840 x 2,440 pixels. Weighing 600 grammes, the tablet will reportedly be as thin as 6.2 mm.

Earlier rumours suggested that the device will also come with an S Pen, enticing those who want both productivity and entertainment. The Windows 10 slate is tipped to be unveiled in January 2016.

According to UberGizmo, Samsung might showcase the new tablet at the CES 2016 in Las Vegas. The Indian import-export tracking site Zauba also said that the tablet may be launched with a price tag of US$455 (AU$626).

The recent Tablet Operating System Forecast by Strategy Analytics foresees global tablet shipments till 2019 based on installed operating system. The report mentioned that the global market share of Windows tablets will increase by 10 percent in 2015, with total shipment reaching 22 million.

The sale of Windows 10 tablets are up by 58 percent from 2014. Moreover, a wide range of new Windows tablets launched in all price tiers will help double the market share by 2019. However, Android will still rule with 68 percent market share, followed by iOS, which makes up 22 percent.
