Scarlett Johansson Says She Did Not Find John Travolta's Oscar Red Carpet Kiss 'Strange, Creepy Or Inappropriate'
Actress Scarlett Johansson says there is nothing “creepy” about the way John Travolta kissed her on the Oscar red carpet. After the 87th Academy Awards ceremony, a picture circulating in media showed the 61-year-old actor touching Johansson's belly and kissing her on the cheek. The “Her” actress stood straight without any emotions on her face as Travolta kissed her. The picture also inspired an Internet meme.
But the 30-year-old actress said she did not find anything wrong with Travolta's actions. “There is nothing strange, creepy or inappropriate about John Travolta,” Johansson said in a statement to the Associated Press. “The image that is circulating is an unfortunate still-frame from a live-action encounter that was very sweet and totally welcome,” the actress added, according to the news agency. Johansson, who has worked with Travolta in 2004 drama "A Love Song for Bobby Long,” said the media did not report what followed next. The actress said that if one watches the moment live, it will not look like what the media has made it to be. She further said that the photo of her with Travolta reflects how people today are “misguided, misinformed and sensationalized by the 24-hour news cycle.”
Johansson said she was not in touch with Travolta since last few years but it is “always a pleasure to be greeted by him.” After the Johansson “kiss incident” at the red carepet, the actor also had a “face-touching” meeting with singer Idina Menzel on stage. Travolta has been famous for his antics since 2014's Academy Awards.
The “Frozen” singer was to present the award for Best Original Song with the actor. She called Travolta by the name “Glom Gazingo” when she introduced him to the audience. But when on stage, Travolta was seen smiling and touching Idina's face a number of times. Check out their picture here.
Oscar's host, Neil Patrick Harris also joked about Travolta's actions. He said that the actor will be back on stage next year “to apologise to Idina for all the face-touching.” In 2014, Travolta also mispronounced Idina's name as “Adele Dazeem” when she came on stage to accept her award.
