Scoopon Rides on Android Success
As Google’s Android platform beats Apple’s iOS, group buying site Scoopon has last launched its own Android app, which is proving to be very popular in the lifestyle section.
The Scoopon Android app released last week delivers exclusive daily deals direct to Android users at noon every day. From restaurant deals to day spas, travel, accommodation and entertainment, Android users can make instant purchases wherever they are, with coupons delivered direct to their phone.
Jon Beros, general manager of Scoopon, says that with the huge growth in Android smartphones, getting Scoopon into the Android market was a no-brainer. The company has seen phenomenal take up, with the application getting 8,500 downloads to date.
“500,000 smart phones are sold in Australia every month,” said Beros. “As an online retailer we’re excited to be giving everyone on Android a native app. We’re also pleased by the fact that most people who’ve reviewed the app have given it five out of five stars.”
In taking the No. 1 spot, Scoopon has bumped other popular apps, including both the Yellow and White Pages, TelstraOne, Domain and RealEstate.com.au.
The release of Scoopon’s Android app follows the release of Scoopon’s iPhone app earlier in the year, which also topped the lifestyle section of the Australian app store, seeing downloads growing up to 486 per cent per week. Scoopon’s iPhone app currently has 375,000 active users and was featured in Apple’s iPhone commercial.
Beros explained that Scoopon sees large spikes in mobile app use when Australians are on holiday, with the iPhone responsible for 20 per cent of Scoopon’s total sales volumes during the Easter break.
“Our Android customers hate missing a deal as much as everyone else,” he concluded. “Now they don’t have to.”
Scoopon’s Android app can be downloaded from Andoid Market.
