Second-Gen Nexus 7 Set for July 2013 Release Date: Expect Premium Specs, Key Lime Pie and a $US199 Price Tag
As predicted earlier, Nexus 7's Version 2.0 is likely the first Android device to showcase Key Lime Pie and it will sell as low as $US199 come its rumoured release date of July 2013.
Taking off from the critical acceptance and acclaim that the first Nexus 7 has generated, the second coming will be a crowd-pleaser thanks to its 1080p display and a quad-core processing chip that either will come from NVIDIA or Qualcomm, Gotta Be Mobile said in a report.
The Android slate is expected to carry over the same tablet profile that endeared it both to experts and consumers. It will be a durable but heavy slab with a matte back cover finish that eliminates the need for a protection case.
There is a chance, however, that the fresh Google and Asus collaboration will lead to a thinner and lighter footprint, essential for the Nexus 7 2 to defeat the top small tablets to come out this year.
Analysts expect a bruising tablet skirmish this year with the iPad Mini 2 sporting a Retina display and Samsung letting out a slew of iPad killers led by the Galaxy Note 8.0 and the refreshed Galaxy Tab 3 lineup.
To attract a wider audience tract, the Nexus 7 is seen to come this year with both Wi-Fi and cellular signals right out of the box. The possibility is high that Android fans will get an LTE-capable Nexus 7 this year, courtesy of the embedded chip that NVIDIA and Qualcomm will bring to the table.
However, the storage capacity will remain restricted on the internal provisions determined by Google, which is a choice between 16GB and 32GB. The internet giant remains adverse to the idea of allowing expansion slots for its hardware, convinced that consumers should rely instead on Google Drive.
Yet the more exciting Nexus 7 servings to come this year are Key Lime Pie and pricing.
Rumours are rife that Google has chosen the Nexus 7 as the first device to display the new Android prowess that will come via KLP. The tablet will likely beat Google's two rumoured smartphones this year - the Motorola X-Phone and the Nexus 5.
And these fresh tablet muscles will be totally reachable for almost everyone, coming only at a starting price tag of $US199, which was the same mark carried by the first Nexus 7 when it was released last year.
