Sega delays 'Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice' to 2016
Sega announced that the upcoming “Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice” for the Nintendo 3DS will no longer be coming out this year. Apparently, the game still has a number of issues, and the decision to delay the game till next year was made so that 3DS users can enjoy a better gaming experience.
Through a post on the official blog of Sega, the development team said that there’s no timeline yet for the game's release in 2016,. Basically, the game will be ready when the team is done with it, so it seems like fans of the game series or the most recent “Sonic Boom” cartoon will have to wait a bit longer.
While this could be seen as something negative, the delay is reportedly for the improvement of the game. The last game in the series, “Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric,” was considered one of the worst games for the Wii U last year, and the 3DS version wasn’t any better.
“Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice” is the sequel to last year’s "disappointing" “Rise of Lyric.” Unlike last year’s game, however, “Fire & Ice” brings back the classic 2D gameplay fans know and love from the older “Sonic the Hedgehog” games, Pocket Gamer reports.
It seems like Sega’s development team knows better and are no longer rushing the production of the next “Sonic Boom” 3DS game. Since most fans love the classic 2D gameplay of Sonic, it’s easy to see why the game was delayed till next year.
That’s not to say there isn’t anything new about it. The game also introduces fire and ice powers – hence the game’s subtitle – which will be used to go through puzzles and take down obstacles. Players can also use the powers to make new paths or destroy roadblocks, which should help continue the flow of a fast-paced “Sonic” game.
There will be five playable characters to choose from: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Sticks and Amy, who wasn’t playable in last year’s 3DS game. Each character will have different abilities that will help them get through levels and obtain rare items like Sonic’s super speed, Tails’ flight and Amy’s gigantic hammer.
