‘Shovel Knight’ For Xbox One Gets Release date
After a long period of waiting, Xbox one gamers will finally get the chance to play developer Yacht Club Games’ hit indie game “Shovel Knight” next week. The game was originally released for the PC, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS to critical acclaim; soon getting versions for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita that should be available to Sony users right now.
The release date was revealed by a Tweet from Microsoft’s Larry Hryb. Who actually expected “Shovel Knight” to be released sometime this week, but updated his Tweet as to not confuse anyone. The game has reportedly passed certification as Tweeted by Xbox head Phil Spencer and now, all the Xbox One users have to do is wait a week.
For those unfamiliar with the game, “Shovel Knight” is sort of a tribute to classic games from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System or the SNES. It takes various inspirations from games like “Super Mario Bros,” “Megaman” and “Ducktales,” while also managing to form its own identity. The game has since been praised for its old-school gameplay and difficult challenges that are satisfying to finish.
Xbox One gamers will get an exclusive boss fight from “Shovel Knight,” as they take on the Battletoads from Rare. The Battletoads won’t appear in the game right away, but will be coming to the Xbox One in a future update. PlayStation users also got an exclusive boss fight, as they can take on “God of War” protagonist Kratos, after performing certain tasks and finding certain items.
“Shovel Knight” has been considered as one of the best downloadable indie games and will reportedly receive more updates in the future. Pocket Gamer has confirmed that the console versions will have three new campaign modes that feature different playable characters, along with a challenge mode and a body swap mode.
Gamespot reports that “Shovel Knight” should be available on the Xbox One on April 27 or April 29 next week. Fans will supposedly be in for a treat as various reviews for the game have been rather glowing and has been considered as a game of the year candidate for 2014.
