“Fantastic Four” tanked at the box office, but the film’s writer and producer, Simon Kinberg, has no plan to give up on the sequel -- not yet.

During the promotion of his film “The Martian” at the Toronto International Film Festival, Kinberg told MTV News that he is focused on the sequel and is “figuring out” what the next film will be about.

“I’m really focused on the next one,” Kinberg said, adding that he would like to see the same cast return. Kinberg had earlier told Entertainment Weekly he would like to keep making movies with the film’s cast as he loves them.

The USD 120 million film (AUD 168.2 million) was a box office disaster, grossing only $26 million in its opening weekend in North America. Kinberg didn’t expect the negative feedback, and fans’ reaction disappointed him.

“I was most disappointed that fans didn’t like it. I care more about them than I do anyone else. But I haven’t done a full deep dive on it,” Kinberg said. “Do I think it was unfairly treated? I don’t know.”

He revealed that there was too much drama going on during the filming, which may have had a negative effect on the project and its performance.

“Every time you make a movie, you want to make a great movie. It’s a ton of time and effort you put in… You’re waking up every morning being like, I want to go make a great movie. It was an opportunity to do that,” “The Martian” producer said.
