In 2014, Sony reportedly announced that all the Xperia Z series of handsets will receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update eventually. But then, the company will apparently not roll out the update for any non-Xperia Z devices.

Based on the tweet from the official Sony Xperia Twitter account, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be made available only to the slew of Xperia Z line-up of devices. Therefore, unfortunately, the devices released not too long ago in 2014 like the Sony Xperia E3, Sony Xperia M2 Aqua, Sony Xperia M2, Sony Xperia C3, Sony Xperia T3, Sony Xperia T2 Ultra and the Sony Xperia E1 will apparently not receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Instead, the devices will have to settle for Android KitKat OS, notes Xperia Blog.

Since the official Twitter account of Sony has communicated this information to a couple of users, it does look like a confirmed company decision. In any case, the aforesaid devices are technically adequate to run the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Therefore, non-Xperia Z device users may have to wait longer to see if Sony changes its decision, says Xperia Blog.

Also Phone Arena notes that, the non-Xperia Z device released this year namely the Xperia M4 Aqua is already running Android 5.0 Lollipop straight out of the box. Plus, the Xperia E4 and Xperia E4g are reportedly scheduled to receive the update eventually.

Meanwhile, here is a list of key Sony Xperia M4 Aqua specifications in case readers would like to buy this handset that comes with Lollipop update. The handset sports a 5.0-inch display packed with 720 x 1,280 pixels resolution. Speaking of design, the Xperia M4 Aqua apparently resembles the high-end Xperia Z3 flagship.

Nonetheless, the M4 Aqua is made of plastic, while the Xperia Z3 is constructed with metal and glass in the company’s trademark style. More importantly, the handset boasts dust- and water-resistant exterior and hence, it comes with IP 68 certification. Under the hood, the M4 Aqua is powered by an octa-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 615) processor and 2 GB of RAM, says Phone Arena.

As far as the memory configuration goes, the handset reportedly comes equipped with 16 GB of internal storage with microSD card support. Plus, there is a gracious 13 MP rear-facing camera unit and a 5 MP front-facing snapper. And lastly, a good 2,400 mAh battery unit apparently keeps the device powered on, notes the same site.

Here are some of the tweets from Sony Xperia Twitter account confirming that there will be no Android 5.0 Lollipop update for any of its non-Xperia Z line-up of devices:
