Sony recently revealed a bold line of laptops including the latest Vaio multi-flip edition. The latest of Sony Haswell ultrabooks revolutionizes the idea of convertible notebooks. They combine the traditional clamshell PC with high computing performance and portability. Is this Sony's ticket to ultrabook supremacy?

Last IFA 2013, Sony introduced a fresh form factor for Vaio. The company released two variants giving consumers a good selection of convertibles depending on their needs: the Vaio Flip PC and the Vaio Tap 11. The current line is also considered as the world's thinnest only at 39 inches. Other specs include Windows 8 and Intel Core processors.

Both the Flip PC and Tap models offer excellent display. Models feature a Full HD 1920 x 1080 display and 2880 x 1620 display with 4K HDMI output. Users can choose between two resolution support depending on what they need. The devices also include Sony's TRILUMINOS Display and X-Reality. TRILUMINOS Display gives the latest VAIOs mobile-like display while X-Reality ensures people can watch videos to the sharpest quality.

The front camera runs on Exmor RS. Sony developed the Exmor RS to make sure image sensors of their devices product sharp and clear images despite low light conditions.

Vaio Flip PC

The Flip PC series offers the traditional features and functions of a notebook PC. It has three modes: tablet, laptop and multiple viewer modes. The device combines entertainment and productivity. The 2nd hinge allows the device to flip and switch into tablet, laptop or multiple viewer modes. Tablet works best with surfing the internet, writing with the Active Pen and taking photos.

Users can flip the display over to go into viewer mode. This is ideal for watching movies and other videos. The flip mode also allows people to show presentations better especially to people sitting across from them.

Vaio Flip PC comes in 13, 14 and 15-inch models. They sport a black and silver aluminum cover together with a backlit keyboard. The keyboard also comes with a palm rest and gesture enabled touch pad for better typing. Other features include a USB 3.0 port and USB charging port inside an AC adapter.

VAIO | Flip PC includes a USB 3.0 port capable of charging personal devices on the go even when the computer is powered down or in sleep mode. In addition, there is a USB charging port housed within the AC adapter (VAIO Fit 13A | Flip PC and VAIO Tap 11 models only). The Flip pc weighs only 2.6 lbs whereas the 14 and 15-inch models weigh 4.2 lbs and 4.6 lbs respectively.

Flip models run on fourth generation Intel Core processors with up to Core i7 along with Hybrid Hard Drive (optional for 14" but standard on 15" models) and Solid State Drive (standard for 13" models). The series also includes optional NVIDIA graphics and 2GB of storage.

VAIO Tap 11

The Vaio Tap 11 series comes in two colors: black and white. The aluminum magnetic full pitch keyboard comes with a touchpad for more comfortable typing. The keyboard is equipped with magnets making it easy to attach the pad to the display when not in use. Attaching the keyboard to the display charges the keyboard and provides the screen a protective cover.

Just like the Flip PC models, the Tap 11 models run on fourth generation Intel Coreprocessors with up to Core i7 complete with Solid State Drives. The series offers up to 6 hours of battery life. Other specs include micro HDMI, USB 3.0, SD card reader and as Intel(R) Wireless Display (WiDi). WiDi allows users to stream multimedia content.

Rear camera shoots at 8-megapixels. The series comes with Exmor RS, CamScanner and Optical Character Recognition (OCR). OCR converts words to text or images.
