Sony made another announcement on their Online Support page of Xperia SP and other Xperia smartphones getting Android 4.4 KitKat. Sony Mobile indicated the update plans for several non-flagship Xperia phones with Android 4.4 such as Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia V, Xperia ZR and Xperia TX.

New List of Xperia Phones Getting Android 4.4

Sony Mobile updated the list of Xperia smartphones getting Android 4.4 KitKat and this time, it includes several mid-range non-Xperia Z handsets. Most of these phones are running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and scheduled to get Android 4.3 by December 2013 - after Xperia Z series.

Mid-range Xperia smartphones destined to get future updates include:

1. Xperia SP

2. Xperia V

3. Xperia T and TX

4. Xperia ZR

Early reports didn't include Xperia ZR on the first list of Android 4.4 recipients and its appearance on the second batch list may actually initiate another batch next year. Click here to see Xperia SP support page and the upgrade plan.

First Recipients of Android 4.4 KitKat

Sony Xperia Z series is the first set of recipients of Android 4.4 KitKat which may arrive by January 2014 due to the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware scheduled for release by late November or December 2013.

The Xperia Z series devices to get Android 4.4 include Xperia Z1, Xperia Z, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia ZL and Xperia Tablet Z. Xperia SP, Xperia V, Xperia T and TX are also getting the new firmware after the Z series.

All of these Xperia smartphones are scheduled to get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean before the next-generation firmware arrives in 2014.
