Sony PlayStation 4 Outsells a Resurgent Xbox One in June
Sony PlayStation 4 has emerged as the top-selling gaming console for the month of June in the U.S., NPD research has revealed. Sony also stated this makes the PS4 the best-selling console for the sixth month in a row. That's not all. The PlayStation brand has also emerged to be the biggest, if the combined sales of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 are taken together.
The revelation comes at a time when Microsoft has been going around town claiming increased sales of its Xbox One following a price revision. Microsoft had recently launched a Kinect-less version of its Xbox One while price has been reduced to $399. The Redmond-based company had revealed sale of the Xbox One had since doubled, reports Xtreme Tech. However, what seems evident right now is even that wasn't enough for the Xbox One to close the gap with the PS4.
In what can be described as the dominance of PlayStation over others in the segment, PS4 games sold more than Xbox One in June. Among games that are compatible to both PS 4 and Xbox One, the PS 4 versions sold more than their Xbox One counterparts, IGN revealed.
An earlier estimate has put shipment figures of the PlayStation 4 at 7 million while the same for the Xbox One had been pegged at 5 million. Both Sony and Microsoft launched their next gen gaming consoles in November 2013.
Among the other players in the gaming industry, Wii U too witnessed increased uptake which has being attributed to the launch of the "Maria Kart 8", reports GameSpot. Sale of the Wii U has grown a commendable 233 per cent in June 2014 compared to the same period a year ago.
In a related development, Microsoft has stated it will be the end of the road for Xbox Entertainment Studios, revealed Time. This will curtail the scope of Xbox One as an entertainment device though Microsoft has stated it will continue to support the Xbox One to offer TV experience. For this, the company stated they will seek partnership with content providers such as Netflix.
