Sony Xperia C3 vs. Xperia C - Specifications, Features, Release Date and Price Comparison
The new Sony Xperia C3, dubbed as the "world's best selfie smartphone" was launched in China recenlty. The mid-range Xperia C3 will hit the store shelves in August. The Sony Xperia C, on the other hand, was released in July 2013. With the new Sony Xperia C3's details unwrapped, it is time for specifications, features and price comparison with the predecessor Sony Xperia C.
Display, Exterior and Size
The Sony Xperia C3 features a whopping LG G3-like 5.5 inches IPS LCD display, with a good screen resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. Whereas the Sony Xperia C features a relatively smaller 5.0 inches TFT display, with a modest 540 x 960 pixels resolution. The pixel density of the Xperia C3 stands at 267 ppi, which is slightly higher than the 220 ppi of Xperia C.
The consistent design standard of Xperia series of phones is maintained in Xperia C as well. The Sony Xperia C comes with Sony's OmniBalance design with the front and the rear panel touting a smooth finish made of plastic. The soft plastic back makes the phone comfortable on the hands and it provides good grip, says NDTV. Nevertheless, the back panel is prone to fingerprint marks. As Sony puts it, the images/videos in Xperia C are sharp, crisp and bright, giving in-depth details about the scene in focus. However, there is not much information available on the form factor used in the selfie-centric Sony Xperia C3. The handset does come with Triluminos display technology that is synonymous with high-end Sony handsets and mobile BRAVIA Engine 2. This combination provides the mid-range Xperia C3 handset with better colour and image reproduction.
The thickness and the weight of Sony Xperia C3 are 0.30 inches and 149 g respectively. The Sony Xperia C, on the other hand, comes with a thickness of 0.35 inches and a weight of 153 g. Hence the Xperia C3 handset is both thinner and lighter.
Hardware, Software and Memory
The Xperia C3 is powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400) Cortex-A7 processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz, whereas the Xperia C is powered by a quad-core (Mediatek MT6589) Cortex-A7 processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz. Both the handsets come with 1 GB of RAM. Also, the Xperia C3 runs on Android v4.4.2 KitKat OS, whereas the Sony Xperia C runs on Android OS, v4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) that is upgradable to higher versions.
The Xperia C comes with 4 GB of memory space, while the Xperia C3 comes with 8 GB of internal storage capacity. In addition, both the phones support microSD card for further expansion up to 32 GB.
Camera
Both the phones house the same 8 MP rear-facing cameras with LED flash. The Xperia C3 sports a surprisingly good 5 MP front-facing camera with a frontal LED flash, staying true to the name "world's best selfie smartphone." The Sony Xperia C, meanwhile, sports a VGA shooter in the front.
Along with the frontal LED flash, the Xperia C3 also provides an 80 degree target view. Moreover, selfies can be taken in multiple ways, a Smile Shutter function lets the selfie to be captured with just a smile and the other way is to tap twice on the back of the handset.
Battery
Sony Xperia C3 houses a solid non-removable Li-Ion 2500 mAh battery unit, while the Sony Xperia C features a relatively lesser Li-Ion 2390 mAh battery unit. The Xperia C3 can provide up to 25 hours of 3G talk-time and 960 hours of 3G stand-by time, while the Xperia C can give up to 12 hours of 3G talk-time and only 605 hours of 3G stand-by time, says GSMArena.
Colour
The Sony Xperia C3 will come in black, white, and mint shades, whereas the Sony Xperia C comes in black, white and purple colour choices.
Misc
- The Xperia C3 supports NFC, while the Xperia C doesn't.

- Moreover, Sony has launched 2 models of Xperia C3. The "Sony Xperia C3 Dual" comes with dual-sim support with identical specifications. Meanwhile, the Xperia C comes with dual-sim capability.
Price
The Sony Xperia C can be purchased for AU$269.95 in Australia. Although, official price is yet to be announced, an Indian Web site named PriceIn says the latest Sony Xperia C3 will likely be priced at 22,999 INR in India that roughly translates to AU$409.
