Samsung Electronics Co Ltd is emerging as a major player in its local debt market, buying more South Korean-issued bonds as it juggles a $60 billion cash pile. The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 was released last January, whereas the Sony Xperia E3 has recently been unveiled. Notably, the Sony handset is already available in selected Asian markets. Both the smartphones are budget-friendly that come bundled with impressive under the hood configurations. Readers who are interested in the mighty Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 or the latest Sony Xperia E3 should check out this comparison.

Display, Exterior And Size

The Sony Xperia E3 comes with a 4.5-inch IPS display aided by 480 x 854 pixels resolution and 218 ppi pixel density. The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2, meanwhile, features a much bigger 5.2-inch TFT display along with 720 x 1,280 pixels resolution and 280 ppi pixel density.

When it comes to the exterior, the Galaxy Grand 2 sports a faux-leather design seen in the Galaxy Note 3. Additionally, the handset's body is made of plastic material that gives an inexpensive look to the device. Nevertheless, Phone Arena opines that, the faux-leather back is better looking than the shiny plastic look observed in multitude of Samsung devices. Also, the patterned design on the back makes sure the device never gets stained and it is comfortable on the hands providing good grip. The phone comes with great colour reproduction; however wide viewing angle and oversaturation problem persist.

The Xperia E3, on the other hand, comes bundled with premium-look written all over it. The device features curved corners and sports a matte-effect laden plastic material overall. The problem area got to be the thicker bezels fencing the screen. Furthermore, the plastic build quality of this device is above average, according to Sulekha.

Speaking of size, the thickness and the weight of Samsung and Sony handsets are (0.35-inch and 163 g) and (0.33-inch and weighs 143 g), respectively.

Hardware, Software And Memory

Both the smartphones are powered by the same quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400) Cortex-A7 processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz. While the Samsung handset comes with a good 1.5 GB of RAM, the Sony device is backed by 1 GB of RAM. Moreover, the Galaxy Grand 2 runs on Android v4.3 Jelly Bean OS that is upgradable to v4.4.2 KitKat, while the Xperia E3 runs on Android v4.4.2 KitKat OS out of the box.

As far as the memory goes, the Samsung device comes equipped with 8 GB of internal storage capacity, whereas the Sony handset settles for 4 GB of storage. Nevertheless, both the phones support microSD card and the expansion limits of Sony and Samsung smartphones stand at 32 GB and 64 GB respectively.

Camera And Battery

The Sony Xperia E3 sports a 5 MP rear-facing camera with LED flash and a VGA shooter as the secondary unit. The Galaxy Grand 2, on the other hand, sports a relatively better 8 MP rear-facing unit with LED flash and a 1.9 MP secondary snapper for selfies. While the Sony handset is backed by a Li-Ion 2,330 mAh battery, the Samsung device features a relatively better Li-Ion 2,600 mAh battery unit.
