Sony Xperia Honami generated much buzz over the last couple of months with most of the market expecting announcement and release this September. Nonetheless, even before the release of the Honami line, a photo leak and several sources claim that Sony has already been working on a mini version.

Is Sony really planning to release a mini Honami?

The flagship Android smartphone has generated considerable interest particularly because of its exceptional features including the 20-megapixel camera. According to reports, the Honami handset will run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. While Sony has yet to confirm or make an official announcement about the matter, it does not seem far to think of Sony creating a smaller version of the Xperia.

Samsung previously did it with their Galaxy S4 and Motorola along with HTC will do the same thing for Moto X and HTC One. The hype building around the mini version of the Honami smartphone exhibits the interest the flagship phone has gained throughout these months. Without any official announcement yet, reports and a possible photo leak of the mini version have already surfaced.

Just like competitors, Sony appears to be planning on sticking to the specs of the bigger phone with the smaller version. The internal hardware package will most likely be the same. As for the display, the Honami mini will have a 4.3 inch Triluminos 720p display. It will also run on a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quadcore processor plus 2GB of Ram and 16GB internal storage.

It is possible for the mini handset to offer expandable memory options. Reports also suggested that Sony may use a 2,400 mAh battery. The interesting bit about these reports is that Sony does not seem to want to downgrade the camera quality on the mini version. The rumor mill notes that Sony plans to provide the same 20.7 megapixel camera on the smaller device. Thus, the only evident difference between the two handsets will be the size of their displays.

This means 5 inch 1080 to 4.3 720p whereas the battery goes from 3,050 mAh battery to 2,400 mAh. Since Sony has been keeping mum about the matter, it is best to watch out for the next announcement from the company. In the meantime, the photo leak from XDA Developers Forum should give an insight on what people should expect from the mini Honami.
