Sony Xperia S and Other Handsets Finally Close in Getting Androidv4.1 Jelly Bean Update
Sony's line of handsets including Xperia S, Acro S and SL will finally receive the 4.1 version of Jelly Bean update by the end of the month.
The smartphones were certified to receive the software update this week. Preparing JellyBean to be released for those devices has been a bit of a process as there were several setbacks postponing the date of certification.
The Sony Xperia S Jelly Bean update is really happening as a photo of the Androidv4.1 firmware leaked ahead its release. This is not the first leak of the firmware update. The recent leak originated from DooMLoRD from XDA-Developers forums, courtesy of Xperia Blog. It shows that it is close to the final version as the software is going to get. The new build is 6.2.B.0.197, and it's for developer versions of the device.
However, it appears that the software has been made available for consumers and that the software is extremely stable and fully working, meaning the Sony engineers working on this software are extremely close to a final version, if they aren't there already. This new Jelly Bean build was evidently released only a few days ago.
Sony Xperia S is expected to receive its Jelly Bean update later this month. According to a new report, Sony Mobile's Poland division has confirmed that the much awaited update is already in its final stages and is bound for release in "a couple of days".
Instead, the manufacturer has announced that the deployment process of the new OS on these devices will start at the end of May.
Once the update will start rolling out, the more notable changes you're going to experience on your device include the addition of Google Now, new WALKMAN, Album and Movies apps, a redesigned application tray, better battery life thanks to the inclusion of Battery STAMINA mode, as well as the option to add more desktop panes on your homescreen.
JellyBean will bring some exciting new features to the Xperia line such as "TalkBack" and "Gesture Mode." "TalkBack" reads what is present on the screen to the user and "Gesture Mode" allows low vision or blind users of the device to navigate using touch and swipe gestures along with speech output.
The JellyBean firmware will also improve the overall performance of these Xperia devices, making movement between home screens and switching between apps much smoother.
Sony Xperia S was launched in February 2012 running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, got the Ice Cream Sandwich later on and was confirmed as eligible for the Jelly Bean treatment. It will probably be the last update for the smartphone. The delay angered a lot of consumers.
