Sony has been doing a good job rolling out updates for its flagships and other devices. It has also been gaining positive reaction from users because of its rate of adoption. The company has been able to keep up with its updates and promises especially newer and improved builds. With the Xperia Z updates, new reports say Sony is also ready to update its Xperia SP smartphone with the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

A new firmware build has been confirmed for the Xperia SP. The firmware build is called the 12.1.A.0.253. As mentioned, it is the same Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update Sony smartphone users have been waiting for. The upgrade should be available to all Xperia SP device users across the globe soon. Similar to other Sony operating system updates, some regions may take a while to receive the new firmware. It is best to check with network providers and any notifications.

Once the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean becomes available to Xperia SP users, they can begin the updating. There are several things users should ensure prior to doing the upgrade and these are as follows:

  • Their handset should be sufficiently charged. Most updates recommend 80 per cent charge, but it is best to charge it fully. This will avoid any problems because of power interruptions.
  • It is also best to have a backup of the files on the phone. Most of the time, data can be wiped out due to an update. Regardless, it pays to have another copy of important files and personal information.

Following these, the following are the instructions for the update:

1. Go to Applications on the home screen.

2. Choose or tap on the Update system. Go to System tab.

3. Update the software as provided.

The process may take a few minutes. Following the update, users need to switch off their handsets. Then, they need to turn it back on after a few seconds. Go to the About Device and check Settings. In the About Device section, there should be an Android 4.3 Update showing up. This will confirm the update has been successful. If there is no Android 4.3, then something went wrong with the update. Users can do the process again or reset their phone.
