Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition Receives Android 5.0 Lollipop Update—Report
After the Nexus devices, the Google Play Edition devices are the ones to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Running on the stock version of Android, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition is reportedly getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.
Though Android Central claims that the arrival of Sony Xperia Z Ultra GPe Android Lollipop update has not been officially confirmed by Sony, a user on the Android Central forums managed to get access to the software update. It claims that the OTA update weighs 397 MB, and in order to carry out the update, there should be more than 500 MB of free storage space on the device. Android Central suggested that owners of Xperia Z Ultra GPe check for the update manually to know whether it is available.
The Android Lollipop upgrade for Sony Xperia Z Ultra GPe will bring numerous features like the Material Design UI, viewing notifications on the lock screen, battery saving mode, Smart Lock security feature and many more. As far as the other Google Play Edition devices are concerned, the HTC One M7 and HTC One M8 are yet to receive the update, and the Samsung Galaxy S4 GPe was seen running the beta version of Android Lollipop update, but there has been no confirmation from Samsung.
Sporting a huge 6.4-inch IPS LCD full HD display screen along with dust and water construction, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition runs on the stock version of Android. It does not feature the Xperia UI, which is present on the Sony Xperia Z Ultra smartphone. When the handset was launched in July 2013, it came with Android v4.2 Jelly Bean OS. It was upgraded to Android 4.4.4 KitKat a few months ago.
The Xperia Z Ultra is powered by Snapdragon 800 processor that has a clocking speed of 2.2 GHz. It is accompanied by 2 GB RAM. The other features of the handset are 16 GB of built-in storage, up to 64 GB support on microSD slot, 8 MP rear camera, 2MP front camera and 3050 mAh non-removable battery.
