Sony continues to bring the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to a number of its devices including the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z Ultra. Specifically, the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update is based on the build number 14.5.A.0.242. As with other Android update rollouts, the release is done in stages. This may mean that some users will get early access while others can expect a delay in notification and OTA. Schedule depends on carriers and regions.

To confirm the rollout of the Android Lollipop firmware series, Sony has posted in its blog: "Our Android 5.0, Lollipop upgrade continues from today for Xperia Z3 Dual, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z Ultra, and next week for Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3 (and both dual SIM variants) – rolling out to markets worldwide*."

Likewise, the company also notes: After that, it’s the original Xperia Z Series; Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z – starting in a few weeks time… stay tuned, as we’ll announce the rollout launch right here." It has been a general consensus that the Android 5.0 Lollipop is the biggest from Google yet. However, as with other software OS update rollouts, the Lollipop series has been plagued with a series of problems and delays. As it has been noted before, the delay and differences in schedule in releases depend on the manufacturer and carrier. Both parties need to tweak the source code to match their existing platforms, interfaces and other offerings.

The Android 5.0 Lollipop promises a series of changes including Material Design, more tangible interaction and Better information and notifications management. Several Nexus users have voiced out problems on the update series but Google claims it has been working on fixes. The company has also released a new update, the Android 5.1 but Sony has yet to announce final plans and schedules about it.
