Sony Xperia Z and ZL will both be available in at least five Southeast Asian countries, including Singapore and the Philippines. Which device should be in your gadget shopping list?

Sony Mobile confirmed both Xperia Z and Xperia ZL will be available in the stores within the first quarter of 2013. The announcement was made at a launch event in Singapore last week.

Xperia Z Price Tag in Asia Unannounced at Singapore Launch Event

The Xperia Z price tag has not been uncovered for the SE Asian market. In Australia, Xperia Z will cost AU$749 direct from Sony Centers.

"Hi all, [Xperia Z] will be $749 direct from Sony Centers and will be available in black, white and purple. Further carrier information as well as price plans will be announced soon," reads a Facebook post on the Sony Mobile Australia page.

The Xperia ZL price is expected to be cheaper, but it does not necessarily make the ZL the better gadget of the two. Below is a quick comparison of the latest devices from Sony Mobile.

Xperia Z vs Xperia ZL: Which One is the Better Gadget for You?

Both Xperia Z and ZL feature stunning display screens with 1080p TFT Reality Display powered by Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2. Both have 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro to keep the device operations smooth. Mobile photo enthusiasts will enjoy some playtime using the 13-megapixel rear camera with Exmor RS sensor also present in both handsets.

The Xperia ZL specs overlap most of what makes its Z sibling a standout smartphone. If you are confused about making a choice, answer this: How important is it for you to have a water-resistant smartphone? Between the two flagship handsets from Sony, only the Xperia Z can boast of water resistance.

There are a few minor differentiators between Z and ZL. Engadget observed Xperia Z has a better reflective symmetry. Tech Radar noted the ZL device is .08 inches thicker, but its overall footprint is smaller. CNET zeroed in on aesthetics and determined the ZL falls short in design flair.

If the lack of water resistant feature does not bother you, perhaps you have to wait for more user reviews once the handsets become available.
