Sony Xperia Z3 vs. HTC One M8 – Specifications, Features And Price Comparison
The 2014 flagship HTC One M8 was released in March. Meanwhile, Sony introduced the successor of the Xperia Z2 at the IFA 2014 event called Xperia Z3 in September. Readers who are interested in the latest Sony Xperia Z3 or the HTC One M8 should check out this comparison.
Display, Exterior And Size
The Sony Xperia Z3 comes with a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display and 1,080 x 1,920 pixels screen resolution. On the other hand, the HTC One M8 features a relatively smaller 5.0-inch Super LCD3 display but the resolution is same as the Sony device. In addition, the pixel densities of One M8 and Xperia Z3 handsets stand at 441 ppi and 424 ppi respectively.
When it comes to design, the HTC One M8 has premium-look written all over it. HTC has provided a brushed metal design capsulated in a wrap-around unibody frame, with rounded edges that fit the hands comfortably, says CNet. On the other hand, thanks to the TRILUMINOS display technology and X-Reality, the Xperia Z3 provides crystal-clear and bright display. Like its predecessor Xperia Z2, the thick bezels on the top of the handset are maintained in the successor as well. Nonetheless, the bezels on the sides are almost non-existent and therefore the smartphone looks sleeker. Additionally, the edges of the handset are slightly rounded unlike the Xperia Z2. The most-thoughtful feature however is the "nylon coating/covering" carefully plastered on the corners of the handset. Sony believes this coating can minimise the damage to the smartphone from accidental fall, reports Trusted Reviews.
Speaking of size, the thickness and the weight of the HTC One M8 are 0.37-inch and 160 g respectively, while the Xperia Z3 is 0.29-inch thick and weighs 152 g.
Hardware, Software And Memory
Both the handsets are powered by the same quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 801) Krait 400 processor. However, the processors of the HTC and Sony devices are clocked at 2.3 GHz and 2.5 GHz respectively. Apart from this, the One M8 is backed by a 2 GB of RAM, while the Xperia Z2 boasts a killer 3 GB of RAM.
Coming to OS, the HTC handset runs on Android v4.4.2 KitKat along with HTC Sense v6 UI, which is upgradable to v4.4.3, whereas the Sony handset runs on Android v4.4.4 KitKat. Both the devices offer 16 GB and 32 GB of internal storage and support microSD card for expansion up to 128 GB.
Camera And Battery
The Xperia Z3 sports a killer 20.7 MP primary camera with LED flash, while the HTC smartphone features a unique 4 UltraPixels rear-facing unit with dual-LED (dual tone) flash. In specific, the One M8 comes equipped with 2 lenses (i.e. Duo Camera) to capture picture-perfect images. Moreover, the Xperia Z3 houses a 2.2 MP front-facing snapper, whereas the HTC One M8 comes with a good 5 MP shooter for selfies. While the HTC smartphone houses a good Li-Ion 2600 mAh battery, the Sony trumps the HTC handset with a killer 3100 mAh battery unit.
Additional Features
1. Both HTC and Sony devices support Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, microUSB, NFC and 4G LTE. While the HTC One M8 handset supports Infrared port, the Xperia Z3 doesn't.
2. The HTC One M8 comes in gunmetal gray, glacial silver and amber gold shades, whereas the Xperia Z3 comes in black, white, silver green and copper hues.
3. Both the smartphones support nano-SIM.
4. The HTC handset comes with the well-received BoomSound and BlinkFeed news aggregator support.
5. While the Sony Xperia Z3 comes equipped with dust- and water-resistant exterior, the HTC One M8 doesn't.
6. It is worth noting that, both the devices come as Dual-SIM variants as well.
Price
The HTC One M8 (16 GB, 4G LTE) variant can be purchased at a reduced price of AU$599.95. Meanwhile, the Sony Xperia Z3 (16 GB, 4G LTE) model can be purchased for AU$799.95.
