It has not been long ago that Sony unveiled its Sony Xperia Z5 range of smartphones; however, rumours and speculations have started pouring in regarding the models' successor, Xperia Z6, the upcoming new flagship of the company.

Earlier rumours suggested that the the Xperia Z6 will be announced at the Mobile World Congress 2016. However, a recent report from Pocket Lint indicates that the flagship will not see the light of the day before the second half of 2016. This means Sony might again update the Xperia Z series at the IFA in Germany. However, Sony may reportedly announce a mid-range smartphone at the MWC next year.

For the Xperia Z6, Sony will not depend on any third-party supplier and try its hands out on developing its own version of a pressure-sensitive display, Mobi Picker reports. The touch-sensitive display allows users to perform various actions depending on the amount of pressure or force exerted on the screen. The Xperia Z6 is also expected to sport the same fingerprint sensor used in Z5.

The Xperia Z6 is expected to feature an OmniBalance design, and it may also come with an aluminium frame. Sony may reportedly consider to introduce the device in different versions like the Xperia Z5. The base model is said to feature a 5.2-inch 2K QHD display, while the premium variant will sport a larger display. The current Xperia Z5 Premium sports a 4K resolution.

The report further states that Sony will use the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset for its upcoming flagship to ensure enhanced performance and efficiency. The Japanese giant has also always been renowned for using coveted camera sensors for its flagship devices. The Xperia Z6 is speculated to house the same highly rated 23MP IMX300 camera sensor of the Xperia Z5 series, with a few software updates.
