Sony’s Releasing a New Galaxy Note Rival: The 6.44-Inch, Quad-Core Snapdragon-Powered Xperia Z Ultra with Stylus Lands in July
Even before its rumoured September release date, Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 is set to combat with a slew of tough competitions, the latest of which is Sony's Xperia Z Ultra, boasting of a stylish digitizer as among its key attractions.
The new Xperia phablet will be unveiled in July, according to reports by Gotta Be Mobile and Xperia Blog.
Apparently, Sony sent out invites for an event scheduled next month and Xperia Blog is among the recipients to witness the unwrapping of another oversized smartphone player that is a bit bigger from the Note 3 that Samsung will push out later this year.
The Paris Sony event provided a hint of the device that is sleek thin and beautifully big.
The Xperia Z Ultra is a 1080p handset that counts a Snapdragon chip as its main powerhorse, spinning at a dizzying speed of 2.2GHz and its tasks made easier by its RAM partner of 2GB. The basic model will likely come with a 16GB of built-in memory, a standard with 2013 gadget releases.
But on the camera side, the Note 3's rumoured 13MP snapper (or even higher) will easily dwarf that of the Xperia phablet's 8MP sensor even as the latter will outsize the former's 5.99-inch screen, doubling too as the cam view finder.
Yet the more interesting feature of the new Sony device is the stylus that takes the page from Samsung bold move two years ago to reintroduce the once obscure tool. The gambit paid off and Sony unabashedly mimics it.
"Sony has also went so far as to show a stylus writing out another message at the bottom of the invitation," GBM said on its report, highlighting the way the Japanese tech firm hinted that the Xperia Z Ultra wields a stylus.
While part of the Xperia high-end line of smartphones, this phablet is not water and dust proof like the Xperia Z, the same report said.
No specifics were provided with the invites for the Xperia Z Ultra release date but it is expected to come earlier than that of the Galaxy Note 3, which rumours suggest will start showing its giant capabilities by September this year.
