Sony's Selfie Focused Smartphone - Xperia C3 Launched
Sony's rumoured smartphone dedicated to the selfie enthusiasts is finally here. Launched today in Taiwan, the Xperia C3 reveals a front facing 5 megapixel camera complete with LED flash, reports Engadget. The Xperia C3 also comes with a host of innovative camera centric features. For instance, double tapping the back cover will be enough to click selfies. The same can be invoked by using the Smile Shutter as well.
The PROselfie cam - as referred to by Sony during the official unveiling - is also complemented with a lot of enhancements on the software front. Among the selfie focused apps that will be part of the package include Portrait Retouch and AR effect, reports Times of India. Sony is claiming the images clicked with the front facing cam will be adjusted automatically according to the surrounding light conditions. Of course the front LED and HDR comes into the picture here allowing for perfect lightings for the selfies. There is the instant sharing option as well which allows users to share their latest selfies on the social networking sites with the least fuss.
The rest of the specs reveal a 5.5 inch Triluminos 720p display, a 1.2 Ghz quad core Snapdragon chip, a gig of RAM and 8 GB memory. There is also micro SD card support that maxes out at 32 GB, something that is solely needed for a camera centric device. There is a rear facing 8 megapixel camera as well that boasts of Sony Exmor RS and pulsed LED support to add to the image quality. The device runs Android 4.2.2 right out of the box.
Sony has cited the current prevailing selfie trend as reasons for it to consider developing an entire smartphone devoted to the concept. The company stated clicking selfies has increased 1700 percent since 2012, the TOI report further revealed. However it's not clear if it's worth buying a smartphone that is good at clicking selfies when the same can be pulled off with most other devices in the segment. Or if clicking selfies is really that important, argues Slashgear.
Meanwhile, a global rollout of the Xperia C3 is scheduled in August and will be available in black, white and mint color options.
