Whether Shailene Woodley will be cast in the “Spider-Man” reboot remains uncertain at this point. However, the actress recently expressed her interest to reprise her role as Mary Jane Watson in the Sony-Marvel produced film.

Shailene Woodley told Clevver Movies, while promoting “Insurgent,” the sequel to her hit film “Divergent,” that she is very much interested to play Mary Jane Watson in the “Spider-Man” reboot if given the opportunity. Apparently, Woodley had no idea that Spider-Man was entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe when she said, “I didn’t know that actually, that’s amazing.” But her reply of “Heck Yeah” to whether she would like to reprise her role as Mary Jane Watson could be considered as a shout out for Marvel to cast the actress in the reboot.

However, Woodley may reportedly be too old to portray Peter Parker’s love interest since Marvel is planning to cast a teenage web crawler, someone whom according to Screenrant can portray the role of a 15-year old Peter Parker. The “Spider-Man” reboot will reportedly take Peter Parker back to his high school years and Marvel and Sony Pictures are said to still be in the lookout for the perfect actor to portray the role.

Shailene Woodley once portrayed the role of Mary Jane Watson in the 2014 “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” However, her scenes didn’t end up in the theatrical release. According to Comicbookmovie, they were ultimately cut since the focus was given to Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacey’s (Emma Stone) relationship.

This is not the first time though that Shailene Woodley has expressed her intention to star in a Marvel film. The actress also expressed her intention to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe last year. Woodley told MTV UK that she “would love to be in a superhero movie if it was Marvel.” According to the actress, Marvel’s films are so much fun to watch since they’re like reading a fictional book.

However, it all lies on Marvel’s decision whether it will take interest in Shailene Woodley’s enthusiasm to star in the “Spider-Man” reboot. Very few details have been revealed so far regarding the movie and it’s still unclear if Sony and Marvel will even cast another Mary Jane Watson in the reboot.
