Spotify Comes to Australia and New Zealand with 16 Million Free Songs and Unlimited Access
Good news for Aussie music junkies. Music playing website Spotify announced yesterday that it will now be available in Australia and New Zealand.
The popular Swedish music streaming service that took the United States by storm will be heading to the Land Down Under with 16 million tracks for free.
Spotify already showed its presence in Germany. However, it has to be launched in other regions such as Canada and Latin America. Competitors such as Rdio is a huge hit in Brazil and Canada while Sony Music Unlimited has a strong presence in Australia and New Zealand. However, it is undeniable that Spotify is catching up and aiming for global stardom.
Unlike its initial offering in the United Stated, which featured six months of unlimited access, Australians will be able to enjoy unlimited access in Spotify indefinitely. In March, Spotify revealed that they are planning to keep the service free after the six month trial. Originally, for those that didn't sign up for a premium package - ranging from $4.99 to $9.99 a month - the site would be limited to 10 free hours of streaming music each month.
Spotify on iPhone
The chief executive of music app Spotify Daniel Ek showed off the hack that allows him to control the app using Siri controlling the Spotify app in his iPhone 4S.
According to the report of Forbes, "He takes out his iPhone. Using its Siri voice software, he asks it when tomorrow's first appointment begins. After a few seconds the computerized voice says 11 a.m. "Imagine if this was three times as fast or truly understood my intent," Ek says. "It's probably the biggest threat to Google; it's a whole new way of interacting."
"Does he plan on building a voice activated Spotify interface? He flashes a mischievous smile. "Play me some Coldplay," he tells the phone. Its small speakers ring out with the opening piano chords of the band's hit "The Scientist." "We hacked into it a few weeks ago," Ek says, with a satisfied nod. "I'm not an inventor. I just want to make things better."
Spotify CEO Daniel Ek is currently hailed as "The Most Important Man in Music" as he managed to make his small business grew and transforming it into a social media elite. Based from the correspondence of Daniel Ek, the company will probe into how Spotify can invade the iOS device's feature.
