A recent sighting of a Samsung SM-G900S smartphone model shows that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 may feature a 2.5 Ghz Snapdragon 800 chip and 2560×1440 display. Reports say that there are strong indications that it will be the next Galaxy S5. Samsung's next flagship phone is expected to hit around April 2014. Can the newly spotted device be the much awaited handset?

The recent spotting was from GFX Bench. Nonetheless, there are reports saying that the next Samsung Galaxy S5 can be based on ARMv8. Other reports indicate that Samsung may have the chip ready for 2014 but it does not necessarily mean that it will be inside the Galaxy S5.

Based on these reports, the 2.5 Ghz Snapdragon 800 may come with a higher clock speed. It is also possible for it to include a more powerful Adreno 420 GPU. Analysts remain skeptic about the 64-bit ARMv8 architecture. Some even go as far as saying that if this will be the upcoming Galaxy S5 then it can fall short of expectations.

Some analysts say that they would not recommend a handset based on ARMv7 chip for 2014. The handset can be obsolete fast considering the range of handsets coming with powerful chips today. While it might do well in benchmarks, it will be easier to work with a newer and more powerful chip. Analysts say that a handset based on the ARMv7 chip is great for people who change phones every 6 to 12 months. However, for those looking for a handset to work with for over a year or more, it would be great to get a higher chip. This should also be a point of consideration for Samsung.

The one thing that the recent sighting appears to have in common with previous reports is the 2560 × 1440 panel. The rumored display offers twice the energy efficiency and better resolution. Those looking for a handset with a great display without consuming as much power can find the S5 a good deal - if all of these are true.

There are also reports that Samsung will be producing two versions: a top-tier and mid-range. This will follow suit with Apple's iPhone 5s and 5c offerings.
