Stacy Lewis wins her first LPGA title at Kraft Nabisco
Lewis has outplayed the world’s top-ranked player and dominated Yani Tseng at the Kraft Nabisco tour that gave Lewis her LPGA first major by three strokes.
She has been called the ‘woman with a spine of steel’ because of the five screws and a steel rod implanted in her back due to her scoliosis. But Stacy Lewis has proven that nothing can stop her from becoming a professional golf player as she won her first LPGA title at the LPGA Kraft Nabisco Championship.
Lewis according to the Associated Press has outplayed the world’s top-ranked player Sunday at Mission Hills, California and dominated Yani Tseng at the tour, giving Lewis her LPGA first major by three strokes.
The Associate Press also noted that Lewis had a rough start with a two-stroke deficit. After she collected herself and ‘quieted down her roiling nerves’, Lewis finished at 13 under 275 after shooting a 3-under 69.
In just one blink, Yani lost the crown to the first time LPGA winner.
Lewis attributed her win to her long years of hard work, giving emphasis to the influence given her by her grandfather, who died a week before the Kraft Nabisco tournament
"I had a good feeling coming into this week because I love this golf course, and I've played well here before," Lewis said, according to the Associated Press.
She added, "Even when my grandfather died, I was (thinking) there's a reason that happened this week, and there's a reason my parents were here. It all worked out the way it should."
Lewis shared during the interview what was going on with her head when she was with an ‘improbable 20-foot par putt from the fringe on the 17th hole’.
"I was shaking, just trying to calm down," Lewis was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.
She added, "My heart was racing, and I was gathering my thoughts. I still had five more shots that I needed to make sure I paid attention to."
Winning $300,000 from the $2 million purse of the Kraft Nabisco Championship, Lewis finished off Tseng 'with a perfect read and precise pace'. The crowd roared said Associated Press when the putt broke into the cup on the 17th hole.
Lewis was given the LPGA’s tradition for first-time winners after the game. While holding hands with her parents, sister and caddie, Lewis took the Kraft Nabisco traditional winner’s leap into the Poppie’s Pond off the 18th green.
