In what may be the first big casting news from “Star Trek 3,” reports suggest that Sofia Boutella will be playing a lead role in the movie. The name and other details about her character in the movie have still not been made available by the producers.

Sofia Boutella is popular among fans for her role in the recent movie “Kingsman: The Secret Service.” According to a report by Deadline, the actress has been cast to play a lead role in “Star Trek 3.” After playing the “blade legged assassin” in the 2014 movie, fans will get to see the actress in the Sci-Fi adventure.

The actress has made a name for herself by playing roles in movies that feature heavy dancing sequences like the 2002 “Dance Challenge” and the 2012 “Street Dance 2.” The actress has also been a back-up dancer to Madonna.

She will be joining Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine, John Cho, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban and Anton Yelchin in “Star Trek 3.” Cast member Simon Pegg, who plays the role of Scotty in the movie, will also be one of the script writers for the movie.

The movie will be directed by Justin Lin, who is famous for directing movies from the “Fast and Furious” franchise. He will be taking the reins from J.J. Abrams, who has directed the last two movies from the franchise.

The plot details about “Star Trek 3” have still not been revealed by the producers. The villains that have already featured in the last two movies are a Romulan, who travels back in time with Spock and a super soldier called Khan.

As International Business Times Australia previously reported, actor Idris Elba may appear as the main villain in the upcoming movie. The movie may feature the Klingons as the main villain faction. The news, however, has not been confirmed by the producers.

“Star Trek 3” is slated to be released on July 8, 2016 in the U.S. The release date information for Australia has still not been revealed by the producers. The Sci-Fi movie is one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2016 by the fans of the franchise.
