‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ Dev Shares Details On Game Environment, Playable Heroes And Weapons
There are still quite a few months before the launch of “Star Wars: Battlefront.” But developer DICE and publisher EA are more than willing to give a few more details on what to expect from the game.
In an exclusive with Xbox Wire, the developer revealed that “Star Wars: Battlefront” will be having the DICE signature. This is meant to bring a fresh experience, one that is far and separate from what players have enjoyed with the “Battlefield” franchise.
What it will take from Battlefield is the Frostbite engine, on which all the “Battlefield” titles have run on. However, since the engine continues to evolve, “Star Wars: Battlefront” will run on the latest version. As reported previously by Polygon, the game will also feature photogrammetry, a technique which will transform the props and models for “Star Wars” into 3D models. This makes the weapons, vehicles and even Stormtroopers of the movie into perfect replicas in the game.
Environment appears to play a huge role in “Star Wars: Battlefront.” Apart from basing the setting on existing places in the movies, DICE will go one step further by expanding the planets to show surfaces that have never been explored in movies. DICE Senior Producer Sigurlina Ingvarsdottir even mentioned that one of the planets available at launch, Sullust, has been inspired by Iceland. It combines what has been seen in the “Star Wars” trilogy, and what DICE as a team is bringing to the table.
GameSpot has also compiled a number of confirmed new details about “Star Wars: Battlefront.” These are confirmed details from Niklas Fegraeus, designer director of the game.
It appears that Darth Vader and Boba Fett are only the first string of playable characters for “Star Wars: Battlefront.” There are more players promised, which will be revealed at a later date. The hero that can be played also depends on the game mode. However, even this has not been given much detail.
DICE reiterates this in a Reddit conversation reported by Gamepur. According to DICE_TheBikingViking, one of the team’s focus for “Star Wars: Battlefront” was the attention to detail of the game, and how it will resound to fans of the franchise. This means putting in detail that are well-known in the Star Wars universe.
Interestingly, there are also no space battles involved, though air combat can be done in planets with Starfighters. The planets that have revealed for “Star Wars: Battlefront” includes Tatooine, Sullust, Hoth and Endor, with eight maps coming at launch.
“Star Wars: Battlefront” is set to hit PS4, Xbox One and PC on Nov. 17. On the other hand, the “Battle of Jaku” DLC can be preordered for an earlier debut on Dec. 1. For players who don’t preorder the game, the DLC will be available a week later on Dec. 8.
