Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens New Lightsaber from is a Very Big Problem
The release of the new Star Wars trailer has got the internet talking. Within a minute of the footage, a cloaked figure stomped through a snow forest and lets out a flickery crossbar. It was the lightsaber and it is bringing all sorts of reaction online. Some find it a problem while others see if plausible. Which side is right?
The teaser came out as revealing to some according to The Independent. There were scenes like John Boyega seemingly stranded as a Stormtropper. However, despite all the scenes in the trailer, the one item that got people talking is the red lightsaber featuring a crossguard. Some people on Twitter have started referring to it as the laser claymore according to The Verge. One user that goes by the Twitter handle @OldHossRadbourn posted: "That's a goddam laser claymore."
The Independent says the general consensus thinks it is "pretty cool" but other reports think otherwise. Nonetheless, the report did note that people find it hard to imagine using the new lightsaber without the safety hazards. There were several concerns about the new type of lightsaber according to The Verge:
1. Whoever wields it may end up chopping their hands off.
2. The lightsaber cannot protect the holder. The laser hilt does not flush with the blade. This means if the device slides down, the person will end up with a broken lightsaber and a cut hand.
Nonetheless, those on the other side counters that it addresses a major lightsaber design problem. Likewise, the laser hilt can be used to jab at opponents. One commenter did say that it may not the "real" lightsaber. According to "Squiz," the person featured in the trailer may be an old Sith who is "reawakened." This means the lightsaber is an entry model. Until the final release of the movie, people may go on debating for now.
