Do you want to make more money? Then have sex four times a week, a German study recommends.

A report released by the Institute for the Study of Labor in Germany stated that people who have frequent sex make more money. Those who do it over four times a week earn 5 per cent more than those who don't.

Besides the higher pay, the benefits of frequent sex include better emotional stability, more extraversion and less health limitations such as diabetes, heart ailments and arthritis.

The study, titled The Effect of Sexual Activity on Wages, is based on a survey with 7,500 Greek respondents who were asked about their sexual orientation, age, frequency of sex, education, religion, job and income.

Those who benefit the most from the link between frequent sex and higher income are workers in the age bracket 26 to 50.

"Higher wages may encourage some to adopt more sexually active lives ... for instance, higher wages may increase purchase of gifts that are thanked for via sex," the researchers wrote.

Previous studies have linked self-esteem, cognitive functioning and reasoning ability with higher income.

"People need to love and be loved, sexually and non-sexually ... In the absence of these elements, many people become susceptible to loneliness, social anxiety and depression that could affect their working life," the study warned.
